The biggest launch at Plaster Blaster 2

Tomahawk Drag Race
By: Trey Fitzgerald

A few months ago I had the opportunity to attend Plaster Blaster 2.  There were several great launches, but one stood out above all of the others, the Tomahawk Drag Race.  The competitors in the race were 12 scratch built full scale D-Region Tomahawks.  These beasts stood 18 feet tall and were 10 inches in diameter.  They were all powered by Hypertek Hybrids 98mm Armageddon M motors.  The rockets weighed in at about 80 pounds.  All of the rockets were out on the M-pads by  8:30 am for the launch at 9:00.  One of the flyers put a 40 pound bag of plaster under his rocket so it could be blasted at takeoff.  The LCO read off all of the flight cards and the 4630 cc tanks began filling.  Once the tanks began venting there was a ten second countdown and the rockets were off.  6 of the 12 rockets lifted off of the pads, the spectators watched in amazement one of them said "they even sound like real Tomahawks".  One of the Tomahawks came in ballistic and landed about 25 feet from the flight line.   The remaing rockets were launched on by one throucht the day.  If all had gone as planned 16 Tomahawks would have flown.
