On this page you will find out what happened at the Plaster Blaster Launch in Plaster City, California. I arrived
at the launch early Saturday morning so none of the Thursday and Friday events will be on this page. The first major
event of the morning was the Thumper Drag race. Like Plaster Blaster drag races of the past this race also used M class motors.
The 21 rockets flew on both composite and hybrid motors. The race was magnificent as half of the rockets lifted
off of the pad. One of the rockets landed ballistically behind the flight line. After the first wave ot Thumpers
four of the remaining Thumpers flew in a second drag race.
Another major flight of the morning was the 2 stage Nike Smoke. It had 4 75mm redline
motors in the booster and a M1939 in the sustainer. The estimated altitude was over 2 miles. The rocket lifted
off nice and straight and it staged right on time. The rocket hit terminal velocity about 4 seconds into the sustainer burn
and shredded.
Another special project that flew on Saturday was the 1/2 scale Nike Ajax. This rocket flew
on 5 K700 motors. The rocket had to be recycled 4 or 5 times but it was a great flight when it finally flew.
At around 4:00 on Saturday it was time for the Commanche flight. 100 3 stage Estes Commanche
3 rockets were flown all at the same time. Thats a total of 300 motors!! The 3 stage rockets flew to about 2500 feet
and the kids recovered them for prizes.
Another special project was the 2 stage FedEx box rocket. This rocket flew on an I357 to an
H168. The rocket did not stage but the backup saved the rocket from a crash.
The first launch of the morning on Sunday was Joanna Woerners level 3 rocket.
This rocket was flown on an M 1315. The rocket flew to about 3500 feey and had a great recovery.
The Sunday launch was also the Vostok launch day. The 22 foot tall rocket
flew on a cluster of 20 Cesaroni motors. All motors lit and the rocket was recovered in a good condition.
Plaster Blaster was a great launch and had many cool rockets that were not listed in this report.
